Conrad Garner

Untitled
Spray paint on wood
Dimensions forthcoming

Conrad Garner is a Tampa-based artist, illustrator, and designer whose work merges vintage visual language with a distinctly contemporary graphic sensibility. Drawing influence from old advertising, packaging, cartoons, concert posters, and other fragments of popular culture, Garner grounds the sharp wit of his work in bold color, layered pattern, and hand-drawn imagery.

Created during the COVID summer of 2020, this piece belongs to a larger body of street-art-inspired, square wooden works in which Garner turned ordinary objects—a fried egg, a glass of whiskey, a bunch of grapes—into exuberant still lifes full of texture, movement, and imperfection.

The handmade patterning draws from the retro motifs that recur throughout Garner’s work, giving the surface an almost shimmering quality without relying on literal shine. Color and repetition make the composition feel animated: part still life, part street art, part vintage commercial graphic. Against the visible grain of the wood, those polished graphic forms are deliberately interrupted by splatter, erosion, and irregular edges, giving the work an appealing tension between design and spontaneity.
